Seraphina

Seraphina (Seraphina, #1)Title: Seraphina
Author: Rachel Hartman
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Adventure
Recommended for 12 and up
Rating: Owl
Other Books you might enjoy: Throne of Glass, Darkest Minds, Enchanted, The Assassin's Curse

Wow. This book...... I can't even describe its awesomeness. Rachel Hartman has wowed me to an epic level. An here's why...
THE PREMISE
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
(Summary from Goodreads)

THE PROS
1. Seraphina is one of my new favorite heroines. She is strong and brave but is still afraid. She is amazing.
2. I have not felt this connected to a book in a long time. I mean I have read a lot of books and loved many of them but I connected with this book on an even higher level. It was AMAZING!!!!!
3. The mystery. Wow I did not see that twist coming at all. The mystery kept me guessing throughout the book!
4. All of the characters were in depth. I felt like I really knew them.
5. The world building. I felt like I really live in Seraphina's world.
6. The concept. This concept was so unique. I don't think I've ever heard of something similar.
7. Rachel Hartman's writing style. Her style was definitely unique and refreshing!!
THE CONS
1.) I got confused at a couple spots because there was a lot going on and there were saints and stuff. Normally when a religiosity name comes up I just kind of forget it and then later I'll be like wait who's that again?

2.) The pacing. It was slow and then it would pick up and then slow down again. I really had a hard time getting through some spots.
OVERALL
This book was amazing and I can't wait to be able to read the next one!!!
Just to add on The cover is amazing! I absolutely LOVE IT!!

This is What Happy Looks Like

This Is What Happy Looks Like

Title: This is What Happy Looks Like
Author: Jennifer E. Smith
Genre: YA, Contemporary, Romance, Realistic Fiction
Content: Kissing
Rating: Owl
Other books you might like: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, Meant to Be

So to start off, I just want to put it out there that I am NOT a big fan of contemporaries. I mean there are a few authors in that category that I will read, but normally I'll stick to the more Sci-Fi and Fantasy aspects. Well Jennifer E. Smith is one of those authors I can't get enough of. A few months ago when I read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, I fell in love with her writing style. So when I heard that she had a new book coming out with an amazing premise, I just had to pre-order it. And then I had to stay up until four in the morning to read it. (yeah, I'm the kind of person who does that, BUT only if I don't have school.) My point is This is What Happy Looks Like does not disappoint.

THE PREMISE
If fate sent you an email, would you answer?

When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O'Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds.

Then Graham finds out that Ellie's Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media's spotlight at all costs?

(Summary from Goodreads)

THE PROS
1.) The E-mails. The e-mails were funny and it was a great concept, although it might have made a bit more sense if they were texts. (More people text than use e-mail.)
2.) Dual POV. In The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, there was only Hadley's perspective, but in this book, both Ellie and Graham get there say.
3.) Ellie and Graham. I just loved bot of them. They come off as really shy around each other and it's really cute. I love Ellie's back story and why she has a reason for not wanting to be with Graham. So many times you read a book and the main characters are kept apart for stupid reasons, but here, it made sense.
4.) Graham's pig Wilbur.... You never actually get to meet him. :'(  But I did think Graham's relationship with his pig was insanely sweet!
5.) The cover! I just LOVE the cover. It's just so pretty.
6.) Jennifer E. Smith's writing style. I've already said this, but I just love how she writes the story, she actually makes you feel connected.
7.) I loved the beginning. It was so funny how Graham was so let down about "Ellie" because the whole time I sat there laughing and thinking, "I know something you don't!!'
8.) I loved Graham and Ellie's jokes, like the whoopie pie one and also there funny stories. =D
THE CONS
1.) I would have liked to see more of the E-mails between Graham and Ellie before the author actually introduced them into the book.
OVERALL
In all, I really enjoyed this book. Jennifer E. Smith somehow manages to make her novels feel so real, like what is happening in them is totally possible. I though this book was a fantastic read.
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES!!!!!!!
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: To lovers of contemporaries or for people looking for a light funny read.
WILL I READ MORE BY THIS AUTHOR: YES!!!

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles)

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)Title Scarlet
Author: Marissa Meyer
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Action, Adventure, Romance
Recommended to lovers of little Red Riding hood. 12 and up
Series: Lunar Chronicles #2
Rating: Owl
Other books you may enjoy: Cinder,
As you've probably already heard, Scarlet is amazing. It is epic. It is part of a series that when you put down the book, you think, I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE YEAR FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!! There are so many good things to be said about this series so here is my book breakdown.
THE PREMISE
Scarlet's grand-mère is missing and the police have given up on the case. Cinder is still stuck in prison desperately trying to escape. Enter The street fighter Wolf and Captain Thorne, there is someone to help boy Cinder and Scarlet.
THE PROS
1. Marissa Meyer wrote an epic story. She took the story of little red riding hood and rewrote it. Leaving it to be true to the tale, yet unpredictable in many ways.
2. Cinder is still amazing. I found myself rushing to read all of the parts with her in it. She doesn't cease to amazing me and she always has something new up her sleeve or should I say arm.
3. Scarlet was a really good character as well. Although I will always love Cinder the best, I liked learn Scarlet's story and her take on the situation with the Lunars.
4. The writing style is seriously amazing.
5. I love Kai even though he was a little stupid towards the end. I liked hearing his thoughts on the queen and seeing the situation that he, as emperor of the Common Wealth, was dealing with.
6. Thorne. I love this guy and I definitely want to hear more from him!!
THE CONS
1. Wolf was a little bit creepy. I liked him well enough but I found his whole blood thirsty rampages disturbing. He was still a good character and added lots of depth.
2. A whole year to the next book!!!! Marissa Meyer how could you do this to me!!!!! I must know the end!!!!!!
OVERALL
I loved Scarlet and I think that everyone should read this book!!! And if you haven't picked Cinder up yet, do it soon or else you will be missing out. This series has managed to captivate me and I can't wait for Cress!!!
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES!!!!
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YEP!!!!
WILL I READ THE NEXT BOOK: YES!!!!
WILL I READ MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR: Marissa Meyer is an amazing story tell and I would read a anything she wrote!!!! :)

Origin

OriginTitle: Origin
Author: Jessica Khoury
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Romance, Adventure
Content: There was an extremely sad, animal death, that I will not elaborate on, but be forewarned, it was depressing.
Series: Stand alone. Khoury is writing another book with a similar premise, but the characters are different.
Rating: Zebra
Other books you may enjoy: Untraceable, Crewl
After some thought I've decided to give this book four stars instead of five. It was an amazing book with great character and a great premise, but here's why I gave it a four out of five:
THE PREMISE
Pia is basically a lab rat. She is this HUGE experiment that everyone in the scientific community of Little Cam depends upon. She knows nothing of the would outside of Little Cam and desperatly wants to know, but she is being trained for the sole purpose of becoming a scientist. To create more of her race, the IMMORTALS. She cannot be cut and she has a lot of endurance, but she only wants to know about the outside. When she has the chance to escape through a hole in the fences she goes out to face the dangers of the Amazon.
THE PROS
1. I liked the characters. Most of the characters were great. (Eio and his village, and Uncle Antonio)
2. Pia's struggle with morality. I liked how Pia stuggled with what the scientists were doing. Having grown up with them for her whole life it would have made sense for her to continue to trust them inexplicably, but she took matters into her own hands.
3. I liked how Pia thought about what it was going to be like to watch everyone she knows die. I thought that was a great point for the author to touch upon.
4. In the second half there was tons of action. I LOVE ACTION!!:D
5. The Epilogue. I love epilogues, they make me so happy. I really wish that all books had epilogues, it just feels so nicely summed up.
THE CONS
1. Why did so many of the characters turn out the way they did!!! It just seemed a bit extreme. I don't want to say more for fear of giving to much away.
2. The book started out really slow. This is my own personal thing, but if a book is not exciting to me, I read it in segements weeks apart. For example I bought this book right after Christmas and got a quarter a the way through and didn't pick it up until today. It was definitley worth the read because half way through it got VERY interesting.
3. Pia made me a bit angry in the beginning, but as her character grew over the course of the book, I grew to love her. (No but really in the beginning I would have probably punched her)
OVERALL
I really liked this book, but it didn't get the five stars because of the slow start. You see I'm a fast paced person, who HATES sitting still. (Seriously I pace when I read. It's pretty amazing how much I read when I have such squirm issues.) I also wish that there was a different ending. DON'T READ THIS SPOILER IF YOU DON'T WANT THE ENDING SPOILED. This is just how I think the ending should have went. (Instead of Pia being happy living in the Amazon with Eio, I think the author should have had them both go with Aunt Harriet, so that they could explore the world. It would have been great to see all their reactions to the new things they would be experiencing!! I would have loved a sequel. )[Instead of Pia being happy living in the Amazon with Eio, I think the author should have had them both go with Aunt Harriet, so that they could explore the world. It would have been great to see all their reactions to the new things they would be experiencing!! I would have loved a sequel. (hide spoiler)] So I thought this was a pretty good book.
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES

Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)Title: Throne of Glass
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Romance, Mystery, Adventure
Series: Throne of Glass #1
Content: Some fighting and death.
Recommended for 12 and up
Rating: Bison
Other books you might like: Scarlet, Defiance, Touch of Power, Greta and the Goblin King, Seraphina
There is one word to describe how I feel, DISAPPOINTED. I have read the four novellas in this series and loved the first three. The fourth was a bit of a disappointment as well because they killed off my fav character. I tried to get over that fact and waited a while before reading Throne of Glass. I thought for sure that this book would make up for the previous disappointment. It did not. Really it is a good book, interesting premise, mysterious characters, really there was nothing glaringly wrong with it.
THE PREMISE
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

(Summary from Goodreads)
ThE PROS
1. There was a lot of action.
2. The secondary characters were interesting.
3. Celaena's back story was explored.
4. Celaena gets the chance to redeem herself.
5. There was a mystery.
THE CONS
1. The love interests (I think it was a love triangle, but it seemed that maybe the captain just wanted a friend) were boring. Dorian really just annoyed me and Chaol was boring and did what he was supposed to do. I mean where the disobedience, come on!!
2. Celaena got even vainer. I mean I am totally fine with the heroine being pretty. I really do get sick of all the nerdy weird girls getting the spotlight (even though I am nerdy and weird) but still all she can focus on is her appearance. Her constant thought always involved clothes and hair and whether everyone else will think she's gorgeous.
3. The mystery was obvious. From the first death it was like, come on Celaena, get with the program it's obvious! Although at one point I did get a little suspicious of another character, but a couple pages later, I knew I was wrong. So the mystery part wasn't so good.
4. Celaena's back story was interesting, why wasn't there more details! Now that I think about it, they will probably be in the next book.
5. There were a couple of other things that made me mad, but they were minor.
OVERALL
I missed Sam and was not able to even remotely like the new guys, even though I did feel bad for Dorian at the end. I think that my main problem is that I still am mad about Sam's death and how now Celaena has moved on. Although I do get it, to her it's been a year, but to me it's been a few weeks. I think that this book is worth giving a shot, but I warn you it doesn’t really live up to the hype. Sorry if I vented a lot in this review, but there were certain things I needed to address.
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YEAH
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YEP, worth the time.
WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: Yes
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: Yes, though I might say to read this first, then go back and read the novellas, so you don't feel the lose for Sam and the hate for the new characters so strongly.
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: YES
AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: THIS BOOK? NO. NOVELLAS? YES

Code Name Verity

Code Name VerityTitle: Code Name Verity
Author: Elizabeth Wein
Genre: YA, Historical Fiction, Action, Adventure, World War Two,
Series: This was stand alone, but there is supposed a companion novel called Rose under fire coming out in September
Rating: Owl
Similar books: The Diviners?
(not really sure of any thing similar. Let me know if you think of something) The Book Thief

Words cannot even begin to describe how I feel about this book. Throughout, I cried (A LOT), I laughed and I was touched by the friendship and love shown in this book. It was so hard to write a book report about this book. (Which I had to do for school) For I really want everyone to know that they should definitely pick it up and read it, but there were no words to describe how much I ADORED this book or how I think everyone should read it. Here’s my breakdown of the book.
THE PREMISE
Verity was captured by the Germans while in France on a mission. She is then tortured and feels forced to give up eleven codes, becoming a traitor in the process. Okay that is all I feel comfortable saying, for I fear that any more will give too much away.
THE PROS
1. Verity and Maddie. They were amazing.
2. The concept. This concept of a spy and the things she faces feels so unique. This book just amazed me with how great the author managed to write the stories of both girls.
3. Verity and Maddie’s friendship. This friendship was so amazing. I have never read a book with characters that touched my heart in the way that Maddie and Verity did. Their friendship was so strong and the cared so greatly for each other. It was a friendship so beautifully written and so amazingly strong. I cannot explain how epic this friendship was.
4. The writing style. The author wrote this in such a unique way, and it was so beautifully written. I just loved this.
5. I loved the ending. I’ll leave it at that.
6. Okay there is A LOT more that I simply loved about this book, but I really can’t write anymore because it will spoil the book. Writing this review is so hard because of the amount of things, seemingly insignificant at first, but really made up the latter part of the story.
THE CONS
1. I read part of this in public. (At a hockey game) Thankfully I didn’t get to any parts that made me cry. (I only read for like fifteen minutes) Be forewarned; DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, READ THIS IN PUBLIC!! Because, trust me on this, you will look strange if tears are pouring down your face. (People, for some reason, might look at you funny or ask you what’s wrong. That interruption would be awful for it would keep you from reading the book!)
2. This book is a slow burn kind of book. Normally I read really fast and will finish a book in less than a day. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE BOOKS. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but if your looking for a quick light read then do not read this book, for it is deep.
3. The beginning starts out slow. I picked it up and put it down several times. But hear me out on this because it picks up pretty quick. And becomes hard to put down.
OVERALL
This book (To re-establish a fact that I’ve already said many times) IS EPIC. My only regret about this book is I did not read it sooner. If you don’t read this book I’m telling you that you are missing out. This is a book that will not be here today and gone tomorrow, I have a feeling that this book is going to stick around. Another con (which isn’t really a con) is that this book upped all of my book standards. I have, since finishing this book two weeks ago, read other books and none of these book have lived up to these new standards. In fact they feel inadequate. (Well that’s not entirely true because I have read other good books, but they lack the emotional impact I felt while reading Code Name Verity.) In fact I have taken two weeks to write this review in order to gather all my thoughts. Now looking back I realize that this is a rambley review with little information and no real reason why you should read this book other than the fact that it might (probably will, unless you are heartless) make you cry and that is an awful reason to read a book. This book, I don’t know how to put this, was amazing. It is a book that YOU should pick up and read. You can go read other reviews and maybe decide this book isn’t for you and there is no way I can think of that might actually convince you to read it. This is me telling you that, yeah maybe you don’t like historical fiction or perhaps you don’t like books that involve World War Two, because let’s face it, that is extremely depressing subject matter. I’m asking you to give this book a chance, for it is possibly the best book I’ve read in my life. Okay I may be in High School and I may have not read all those classic books out there, but I’m saying this; this book has affected me above all else, it has shown me friendship and truth, and so many things that have touched my heart. I would go so far as to say that if I had to pick one book to read in my whole life, I would choose this book. So give this book a chance and maybe you’ll feel the way I do or maybe you won’t. It’s up to you, but this is a book, in my opinion, is one that no one should miss out on.
Thank you for reading my extremely biased review, that seems to ramble A LOT. I congratulate you upon your determination to see this review through to the end.

Greta and the Goblin King

Greta and the Goblin King (Mylena Chronicles, #1)Title: Greta and the Goblin King
Author: Chloe Jacobs
Genre: YA, Fantasy, action, Adventure, Romance
Content: Fighting with mystical creatures
Series: Mylena Chronicle #1
Rating: Zebra
Similar book: Inbetween, Dark Star, Poison

Wow, let me start off with saying, Wow, it the cover not just totally amazing?.....Okay, now that I have finished my cover love, I gave this book 4.5 stars which rounds up to five. I really liked this book. It had such a fun like able quality! :) I read this just the other day, but had to wait a while to write the review so that I could process the information. That is highly unlike me, I personally like writing a review RIGHT after I finish the book so I can IMMEDIATELY get my thoughts down. For this book I had to think, so here is what I've thought:
THE PREMISE
While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

(Summary from Goodreads)
THE PROS
1. I love Greta. She is like so awesome at fighting and determined. You totally get where she's coming from!!
2. Issac. Wow, I read other reviews that said who knew goblins could be hot and I didn't believe them. *shaking head at insane stupidity*
3. Let me reiterate the awesomeness of the cover!! WOW
4. The concept. The idea of leaving Earth through a witch's portal sounds chronicles of Narniaish, but it's really not. The way the author wrote this was unique and original!
5. The ending. It is not a cliff hanger THANK GOD. I really hate cliff hangers unless the next part is immediately available, so I can continue it, but waiting a whole year? That's cruel. The ending in this left some open questions, but if you didn't want to keep reading the series you wouldn't have to. On top of that it was incredibly sweet! :)
6. The group of guys living in the forest. They were all so sweet and for the most part I liked them all.
THE CONS
1. I wish there had been more world-building. I know what the forest is, but I would love to have more descriptions of the cities. Next book maybe???
2. Wyatt. I liked him as the leader of the boys, but as Greta's love interest, ummmm, no thanks.I felt like Greta was leading him on.
3. I felt like something was missing. I have no idea what, but I felt like it was off or something?? Maybe because I was so sick when reading it??? Hmmmmmm.
OVERALL
I really liked this book. It was a fun read and held my attention with it's fast pace and loads of action. (The first two chapters....wow, really caught my attention!!)

No Escape was a great opener to Don’t Turn Around. It was extremely short, but it gave a great beginning to the rest of the series. I read Don’t Turn Around before reading No Escape and felt satisfied with the short story. These books are great and you should definitely consider reading them.

Don't Turn Around

Don't Turn Around (PERSEF0NE, #1)Title: Don't Turn Around
Author: Michelle Gagnon
Genre: YA, Mystery, Thriller, Suspence, Action
Content: Some violence and weird expiriments
Series: PERSEFoNE #1
Rating: Owl

Going into this book, I was pretty sure I was going to like it. I mean come on, it’s got an AMAZING concept and that opening scene was fantastic, to put it mildly. The question then was; how much am I going to like this book? The answer to that was A LOT!! So here is my breakdown of the book.
THE PREMISE
Sixteen-year-old Noa has been a victim of the system ever since her parents died. Now living off the grid and trusting no one, she uses her computer-hacking skills to stay safely anonymous and alone. But when she wakes up on a table in an empty warehouse with an IV in her arm and no memory of how she got there, Noa starts to wish she had someone on her side.

Enter Peter Gregory. A rich kid and the leader of a hacker alliance, Peter needs people with Noa's talents on his team. Especially after a shady corporation called AMRF threatens his life in no uncertain terms.

But what Noa and Peter don't realize is that Noa holds the key to a terrible secret, and there are those who'd stop at nothing to silence her for good
.

(Summary form Goodreads)
THE PROS
1. I loved Noa. She was a great character with lots of depth. I love how the author gave her a reason to react to the situations as she did. So many times you will read a book and wonder why a character chose to do that instead of doing the more logical thing. I also loved that she was a great hacker.
2. Peter. He was pretty awesome, too, though he was nowhere as near as awesome as Noa was. I liked him and his story.
3. The concept. This was a great concept. I loved how they were trying to figure out why Noa was in that lab and also how they used their hacking skills to get things done!
4. The other characters. I loved how evil some of the characters were and all of the different personalities.
5. The writing style. I loved all of the descriptions and the flow of the book! I could not put the book down!
THE CONS
1. There was so much death. It seemed like so many people, including a character that felt unnecessary. A lot happened before the book started, like Peter’s brother and Noa’s parents, but it was just a bit much.
OVERALL
I loved this book. I was fun, fast, and a great read. There was not a lot that I found wrong with it. (Not that I was really looking) I was a really great read and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!!
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES!!! :)
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YEP!
WOULD I REREAD THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YEAH, to like everyone above like 12(maybe older, seeing how there was violence)

Title: Beta

Series: Beta
Rating: Horse
Recommended to older YA audience

Yesterday I was sitting around bored and then I had this crazy idea. I thought to myself, I should pick up my kindle and read one of the like hundreds of books I haven't gotten around to reading. So I went scrolling through all of my books and stopped on this, Beta. I thought, OOOOHHHH PRETTY COVER. Then I was like wait a sec didn't I buy this as the amazon kindle daily deal? Then I was like OMG that means its gotta be good because Amazon is so awesome!! So then I picked up this book and began to read.
THE PREMISE
Elysia has been cloned. In order to be cloned the body you are being cloned from must have died within the past 48 hours. Interesting right? Wait it gets better. Elysia must work on this paradise island where she is practically a slave. She now has a "brother" and a "sister" and basically a fake family. Wait I forgot to mention these clones have no feelings. So this book sounds pretty good right?
THE PROS
1. Elysia's development. I love a book that has great character development. At the beginning Elysia is nothing more than a feelingless robot, but at the end, she has feelings!! YAY.
2. The concept. Ummmm, like isn't the whole I am a clone without feelings, but maybe I'm now a defect, FASCINATING?
3. Elysia's flashbacks. Who doesn't love a good mystery! Although I had so known who her mysterious guy was the second they mentioned him.
4. The ending! DID NOT see that coming. I love when I am totally shocked by an ending, though looking back should I have suspected that twist. HMMMMMMMM
THE CONS
1. Tahir. Dude. I. HATE. YOU. Not even kidding, throughout the book I was like OMG I want to punch this fictional person in the head and I don't even know why.
2. The ending. I hate cliff hangers.... They make me MAD!!
3. Ivan. Really....I can't talk about this. :'(
4. The whole book felt a bit rushed and I didn't really feel a connection to the characters like I do in other books.
OVERALL
So this book is interesting. In no way did I think it was absolutely bad,......BUT there were things where I was like really, you're really going there? You've got to be kidding me. Soooooo,
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: MAYBE, depends on my mood.
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: PROBABLY NOT, I'd get it from the library.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: NO, I DON'T THINK SO
WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: UMMMMM. HELLO, CLIFFHANGER?... OF COURSE I'LL READ THE NEXT ONE.
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: DEPENDS
****WOAH, I did not realize this is the same author that wrote Dash and Lily's Book of Dares! I liked that book! Now looking back I can kinda see the similarity in the writing style. So would I read other books by this author: YES!!****

Matched

This is my first negative review on this blog. :'(

Matched (Matched, #1)Title: Matched
Author: Allie Condie
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Dystopia, Romance
Content: Kissing, some death (like in The Giver)
Series: Matched #1
Rating: Butterfly

So I open of this book with anticipation thinking, this is going to be good, I mean its gotten rave reviews and been recommended to me on amazon. I also saw a review saying it's like a mix of The Giver, 1984, and Brave New World. So right there I should have known (I really hate 1984 because it is so extremely pointless) But anyways, so I read the first sentence: "Now that I've found a way to fly, which direction should I go into the night?" I think ohhh, great opener. (A great first sentence is key in a good book) So I continue to read and read and read this pointless book. Ug, So here's the breakdown.

THE PREMISE
Cassia's society is completely controlled by the government. Like completely, think 1984. So then you have Xander and Ky. So there's Xander her BFF and the guy she's matched to. But then there's Ky. The guy she doesn't really know, but who's awesome. So love triangle. Yep, I thought I can deal, I mean it was obvious from the synopsis, but then it's like I love you when I'm with you and You when I'm with you. And it's so obvious who she's gonna pick in the end of the first book, anyways.
THE PROS
1. The writing style. Condie has a nice writing style...
2. The society. A lot like 1984, but interesting.
3. The matching system. Interesting concept.
4. Her brother. He seemed cool enough.
THE CONS
1. The Characters. They were....flat, I suppose.
2. The love triangle. A well executed love triangle makes for an interesting read(ex. The Hunger Games even though I liked Gale better) This love triangle confused me. I just felt like Cassia and Xander have been friends forever and all of a sudden you notice the guy you've never noticed before and find him a much better match than your BFF? Ummmm, Really??? At least in the Hunger Games Katniss had a previous experience that made her connect to Peeta. (Sorry for all the Hunger Games talk, but it's my base book for love triangle comparison)
3. The Execution. I felt as though I was being rushed through a beautiful park and had no time to enjoy the scenery. (I'm the kind of person to stop and admire the view)
4.It was too much like the Giver and 1984. (Never read Brave New World)But I just felt like it was a repeat and if the last book turns out anything like the end of 1984, that would be even worse.
OVERALL
I thought this book was good, just not great. Writing a bad review is hard, but I just didn't connect with this book. But I want to restate that it was not bad, just not what I wanted or expected. I dunno, sometimes it's hard to explain how you feel, but this book was just not my thing...
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: NO, probably not
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK:NO, there are better books out there.
AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: NO, It's the kind of book you may faintly remember, but it won't be the first book you think of.
WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: If I could get it from the library, then yeah, but only because I hate not reading a whole series.
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR:YEAH, I think so, but depends on the concept.
MY RATING: 2.5 stars, I'm rounding down.
Fav quote: "Now that I've found a way to fly, which direction should I go into the night?" Like I said, I really like the opening Sentence.

Unspeakable (Short Story)

Unspeakable (The Nature of Grace short story, #1.5)
Title: Unspeakable
Author: S.R. Johannes
Genre: YA, Mystery, Thriller
Series: The Nature of Grace
Rating: Zebra

After reading Untraceable, I really needed something to tide me over until Uncontrollable. This extremely short story did just that. I love Mo and Grace so much and reading this scene from Mo's perspective was great. You would probably want to read Untraceable before you read this short story, but for fans of The Nature of Grace series this is a must read.

ZEBRA=4.5 STARS

Uncontrollable (Sequel to Untraceable)

Uncontrollable (Nature of Grace, #2)
Title: Uncontrollable
Author: S.R. Johannes
Genre: YA, Mystery, Thriller, action, advernture
Content: Death of Wolves :'(  Some guns and death towards end
Series: The Nature of Grace
Rating: Owl

So I should probably let you know I have Sequelaphobia and second book phobia. Trust me when I say this, but it is bad! Half the time I have a huge giant let down, like I love the first book and then I read the second and it's like, AAAAHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It's tough, so going into this book I was prepared for the tears and intense heartbreak, but instead I got one of my favorite books for 2012!
THE PREMISE
As Grace recovers from tragedy, her science class is chosen by Agent Sweeney at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to help with research on the new "Red Wolf Reintroduction Program".

While she’s excited about helping with the conservation of the endangered wolves, Grace knows this means being outdoors in the worst winter recorded, in a place she no longer feels comfortable. It also means working closely with Wyn (her ex) and his annoying girlfriend (Skyler), a girl whose idea of getting close to nature is picking silk plants and growing fake plants.

After a couple of wolves show up dead, Grace almost quits. However, when a fellow project team member goes missing, Grace continues the assignment under a renewed suspicion that someone might be sabotaging the conservation program. She quietly begins to hunt for clues.

Little does she know, she is being hunted too.
(Summary from Goodreads)
So let me break it down:
THE PROS
1. Grace continues to be awesome and inspiring! FYI she's my all time favorite character!!
2. There is a whole bunch of nature. I love all things Naturey so obviously I am going to love this book.! Does that make me biased?
3. A certain someone is back.
4. Agent Sweney is cool! And the other character are as always in depth and mostly full of awesomeness! On top of that Grace has one amazing Grandma, not that I'm too jealous, mine are great, too.
5. I love how at the beginning of each chapter there are survival tips AND they relate to what's happening in the book.
6. Untraceable,Unspeakable (The Nature of Grace, #1.5),Uncontrollable (Nature of Grace, #2)Ummm, have you seen these covers, they are gorgeous!! These covers alone would make me want to read the book!
7. So there is A LOT more awesomeness, but, Since listening to it would take awhile, I'll move on.
THE CONS
1. Wyn is a JERK. This is a semi-spoiler so if you really don't want to read about me venting about Wyn, don't read this. So Wyn is a total Jerk to Grace and then admits that he has only ever had feelings for her and making out with Skylar meant absolutely nothing!! Really!! Wyn ditched her when she needed him most when her Dad first disappeared then again when her Dad AND boyfriend just died, All because he was mad she didn't tell you every single detail about her life. Okay way to go Wyn, my new Jerkiest character in the world. (If you highlight it, the words will show up) Okay venting over and no other cons!!
OVERALL
This book was phenomenal and was my favorite book of 2012!S.R. Johannes has once again out done herself.
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YES, No doubt about it
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: I wish I could tell ever single person in the world about this series! If I could put this on a Billboard I really would!
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: DEFINITELY
MY RATING: If I could give this book a rating higher than five stars I would, but since I can't five stars it is!
WILL I READ THE NEXT BOOK: Planning on it, Unstoppable here I come.
AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: YES I can proudly say I am!!
So basically I am begging you to take a look at this book and if you haven't read the first book then you should definitely read it.

Okay I swear I'm done now, happy reading!!

Altered

Altered (Altered, #1)Title: Altered
Author: Jennifer Rush
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Romance, Action, Adventure
Content: The characters kill people with guns, violent.
Recommended: 14 and up
Series: Altered # 1
Rating: Owl

Okay, I went into this book not expecting an amazing read. I had liked the premise and then I decided to try the sample. I started reading it and couldn't put it down and immediately went an bought the book. This is one of those book that keeps you up until one in the morning. The only reason I was able to put this book down was because I was sick, had wake up at five the next day, and had a test, but I put it down with a huge regret. The next day I came home and finished it right after school! So let me break this book down:
THE PREMISE
When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

(Summary from Goodreads)
THE PROS
1. Action packed. There was a lot of action and not much sitting around, the characters were always doing something. I loved this, and it kept my attention! I get bored with books extremely easily, but a book like this is unputtdownable.
2. The characters. Ahhh, I loved them all. Anna was fun and sweet and smart. Sam was mysterious and I was dying to find out his secret. Cas was funny and hyper. (That's my kind of person!) Trev was the good guy. And Nick, well he's just Nick. I really didn't like him at first, but by the end I tolerated him.
3. THE TWIST. OMG I did NOT see that coming! Was that just me? But anyways... I was like What the heck! Then I started to jump up and down, then I went into shock, and then finally I picked up the book and continued reading. You might not be able to tell what the twist was because there were several, but there was one big one that just blew me away!!
4. The concept. I've read similar concepts like this, where there are people being experimented on who then escape. (The Sphinx Project) The way that Jennifer Rush wrote this was amazing! She had great twists and turns and used a great concept to make an awesome book!
5. The bad guys. I love having characters that I am freely opened to hate.
6. The cover. The cover fits the book so well. The whole tree on Sam's back plays such an important role throughout the book.
THE CONS
1. I'm dying to know what happens. It wasn't a cliffhanger, but it was like OMG what are they gonna do now?!
2. The above con was my only con. I love when I hate basically nothing about a book! :)
OVERALL
I really liked this book. Basically everything about it made me think it was more and more awesome!
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YES, although if death and guns really bother you, then this book is probably not for you.
WILL I READ THE NEXT BOOK: WITHOUT A DOUBT
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: YEP

Blood Red Road

Title: Blood Red Road
Author: Moria Young
Genre:YA, Dystopia, Action, Adventure, Post Apocalyptic
Content: Fighting, Death
Series: Dust Land #1
Rating: Owl

When I began Blood Red Road I was..... Apprehensive, to say the least. The narrative of this book is unique and something which is basically incomparable to any other book I've read. When I first began the book I kept picking it up and then putting it down and then picking it up again. Why? For the reason that it has gotten so many amazing reviews and people simply seem to love the book, but I found the language hard to adjust to. So many times I read a book that has gotten phenomenal reviews and I end up having my hopes dashed. This was not the case.

THE PROS
1.) Saba was amazing. She was so flawed and yet at the same time she managed to handle most of the situations that came her way. She was determined and I loved almost everything about her including her cluelessness.
2.) Emmi. I just loved her!! She was so determined and added some fun to the book. At the end, (if you read the book you know what I'm talking about) I was so mad at her and it did end up taking away some of my love for, but I understand why she did what she did. (I made it sound as if something bad happened, but it was nothing that bad, she was just being stupid.)
3.)The setting and world building were amazing. I loved Saba's journey and the setting was really unique feeling. The whole time I read the book, it kind of reminded me of Holes by Louis Sachar. I don't know why, it wasn't that similar but it somehow did.
4.) Jack. Just got to love that guy. Although I am curious as to how old he is. I don't remember reading that part and I know in the sequel, in the first couple of pages he was talking to someone and saying he was too old for Saba who's 18. So my question is how old is Jack?
5.) I have to admit at first the writing threw me off but I grew to love it and found it easier to interpret.
6.) The action!! I love a fast moving fun book and this book filled my requirements.
7.) Okay, I love the paperback (The one that's red), but I am not a big fan of the original one. It's too BLAH... I think that the red one is a better representation of how I see the book's setting.
THE CONS
1.) THERE ARE NO QUOTATION MARKS!!!! I did not like this. It was so confusing and it made the book harder to read instead of it being an easy read. Grrrrr. I've read on other book like this (The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, which I disliked) and it just ruins the flow of the book as you try to distinguish thought from actual speaking.
OVERALL
I adored this book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one. ;) This book was spectacular. Five out of five stars.
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES!!
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: Yep
WOULD I WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: To all post-apocalyptic lovers who enjoy action!
WILL I READ THE NEXT BOOK: WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!

Untraceable

Title: Untraceable
Author: S.R. Johannes
Genre: YA, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Mystery, Nature
Content: Bear deaths
Series: The Nature of Grace
Rating: Owl

Okay this is one of my absolute favorite books.

THE PREMISE
Three months after Grace's father goes missing, Grace is as determined as ever to find out where he went. Everyone else has given up hope that he is still alive and police chief Carl is trying to close the case. Grace searches the Smoky Mountains determined to find him and prove everyone wrong.
THE PROS
1. Grace is awesome!! How can you not love an MC who is totally her own person AND is adventurous!!
2. Mo and Wyn. Both added so much to the story. Mo's all like I'm mysterious and like totally awesome and Wyn's like I'm Hilarious!!
3. The setting. I love mountains, so a story set in the Smoky Mountains is my cup of tea.
4. The mystery. I love the whole, OMG what's gonna happen next!! I don't want to give too much away, so that's all I'll say.
5. Okay, I love everything about this book, so to prevent needless ramblings, I'm just gonna say there are no cons.
OVERALL
This book is probably my favorite book that I've read this year. Untraceable is mixed with the right amount of suspense, intrigue and mystery that will keep you flipping the pages until you hit the end.
Throughout the book you see Grace struggling with relationships to her mom and the rest of the townspeople. People are trying to help her come to terms with her father's disappearance and possible death. The ending is really surprising and not at all obvious. The characters are well written with lots of depth and it is easy to completely lose yourself in the story!
I really loved this book and have just read the next book in the series. I can't wait until the third book comes out. This series is defiantly worth taking the time to read!
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: OBVIOUSLY
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: IT IS WELL WORTH MY MONEY
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE
WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: TO LATE TO STOP ME
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: YEAH!!!
AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: IT"S IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO BE

Starters

Title: Starters
Author: Lissa Price
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Thriller, Adventure, Mystery
Content: Some Violence
Series: Starters and Enders #1
Rating: Owl

So this will be my first ever review on this blog!!! This is a review I wrote a while ago, but I thought I might as well post a review on a book I really liked right away. So anyways, here is my breakdown of the book.
THE PREMISE
Callie squats in a building with her seven year old brother and her friend Michael. They are both minors and are not allowed to work so they must scavenge what they can. Getting food and even water is extremely hard to do. If they are caught, they could be put into the institution, a place where unclaimed minors go. So when the marshals come and kick them out of the building they are forced to run. With no place to go and all of there possessions are gone, Callie has one choice, she must go to Prime Destinations where she can rent her body out to the Enders, who are old people. (people live way into their 100's in this time) When Callie wakes up at the Enders house and learns she has only rented her body for a week when she should have rented it for a whole month, she realizes something is wrong. After a voice in her head tells her not to go back to Prime Destinations things start to change.
This book was awesome! The premise was great, the character were great and the ending was so surprising!
THE PROS
1. Callie was an amazing heroine! She was facing her fears to ensure that her brother could live a better life.
2. Helena, Blake, The Old Man, Micheal, and Tyler were great they had depth and great personalities.
3. The mystery as to why everything was happening took such a drastic twist at the end, left me desperately waning to read the next book!
4. The Villain was awesome, he was creepy, yet you wanted to know more about him.
THE CONS
1. I highly doubt that taking down a corporation sponsored by the president would have been that easy, but I get why the author didn't want to write about how long it took them to win against the evil corporation.
2. The ending raised some serious questions and I don't know how I'll make it to the next book!
OVERALL
This book definitely made my top reads of 2012!! Lissa Price is an AMAZING author, like super awesome. One of the best things was I really didn't see the end coming. Normally in a book I can figure out at least part of what will happen, but in this book my mouth dropped open! LITERALLY!! I was shocked! I really can't wait for the next book to come out! That's the other great thing there were a planned two books. It's not gonna be a trilogy!! That makes me so happy! (Even if it was a trilogy I would still read the books. I just feel that so many authors are dragging out their series forever!
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I REREAD THIS BOOK:WITHOUT A DOUBT
WOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: YEP!!
WOULD I READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR: DEFINITELY, I LOVE HER WRITING STYLE
AM I HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: WHO WOULDN'T BE!!

So tell me, do you feel the same way about Starters by Lissa Price as I do? Or are you thinking about how crazy I am? Seriously, I want to know!! :)
