Rewrite Redemption: Review and Giveaway

Title: Rewrite Redemption
Title: J.H. Walker
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi, Romance, Time Travel, Paranormal
Series: There will be a sequel!!!!
Received: I received this book for the blog tour and am in no way shape or form biased.
Rating: Bison

How I'd blurb it: An intense read that keeps you constantly turning the pages, making for a book that lovers of time-travel will adore.

THE PREMISE
A.J has always had the unique ability to travel through time. Here's the catch though, she can't control it. Her gift drove her mother to the edge, believing she was insane when she kept seeing her daughter disappear while no one else did. After her death A.J.'s father saw the disappearance of his daughter and resorted to drinking believing himself responsible for his wife's suicide. A.J. has always had a strong connection to the tree in her backyard and actually lives in her tree house (built by her grandfather) with her two friends Lex and Ipad. (One of which has had a past with an abusive father.)

Constantine(from here on known as C-man) has had a tough life. With alien DNA he works for a group known as the Editor's, who change the past in order to make sure Earth doesn't destroy itself. After altering the timeline for his personal gain, his brother is confined to a wheelchair, paralyzed from waist down, with C-man unable to fix it because he was confined to his own time by the all powerful Editors. Moving to Colorado with his family, trying to forget his past he meets a Shadow, whom he believes has the ability to alter the timeline without the Editors knowing.

And that is where their adventure begins.

THE PROS
1.)  I loved the time-traveling in this book! It was so much fun!!!
2.) A.J. was a great main character! At first she seemed shy and not like a character I would like, but she really grew on me.
3.) A.J. has a kindle and she likes to read. That alone makes me like her even more!
4.) I like the side story with A.J. going back in time and meeting the Native American, Hosa. That was a great side story, although it never explained why A.J. had consistent jumps to recent times (like going back just a couple decades) and then all of a sudden, two times in her life, she jumps waaaaaayyyyy back. But I still really
5.) There was a nice Harry Potter reference! Very fun!
6.) Telepathy!!!! YAY!!!!
7.) I liked the alternating view points. At first I couldn't tell the voices apart, but as I got to know the characters, it became easier.
8.) Nice reference to The Gift of the Magi. It really connected to the story.
THE CONS
1.) Sometimes instead of using indirect characterization (which flows with the story much more) the author chose to describe the person as they saw themselves. In a list like way. And this bothers me...A LOT. It is not a way I like learning about characters. Thankfully there were only a few examples of this occurring.
2.) I thought that the character, Ipod staying in the tree house and A.J.'s dad not even caring was a bit....not logical....I felt that even an often drunk dad, who still cares about his daughter would be more against a guy constantly staying with her...It was just kind of weird.
3.) There was also the part about Lex being the only nice girl to the geeks...How cliched can it get??? There were also the "mean" and "Bratz Doll" girls. It made no sense, like how on Earth was Lex the ONLY nice "pretty" girl.
4.) I really don't like the name Constantine....It felt to formal. A couple times the nickname Con was thrown in but it was a little erratic with the use.
5.) There was one point where A.J. went back in time and the things she grabbed were a bit to convenient. It felt wrong, like she should have had more difficulty.
OVERALL
I found this to be a highly enjoyable book with (for the most part) enjoyable characters and an interesting story line. It was overall a fun read with minor, easy to overlook, problems. I will definitely be checking out the next book!

My life has been rather unconventional. Born insanely curious into an authoritarian, religious family, I know what it’s like to not fit in. My teen years were a struggle, and I remember them in all their intensity. That’s why I like writing for young adults.
I grew up in Central America, surrounded by jungle, and was never too far from the ocean. I observed other cultures, including an indigenous tribe that, at the time, had seen little of the modern world. While there, I slept in a hammock in a bamboo hut, dressed in tribal clothing, and helped bring three babies into the world in at the tender age of fourteen. I survived a hurricane aboard an ocean liner, canoeing through alligator infested waters, P.E., my brother’s pet tarantulas, sky diving, parasailing over the Pacific shoreline, rock climbing, a ropes course blindfolded, and walking barefoot across hot coals. I’m not done having experiences.
I attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, but was so obsessed in my quest to understand human behavior; I left midstream to travel the country and study with people doing groundbreaking work in the field. I’m certified in Ericksonian Hypnosis, am a Master of Neuro-linguistic Programming and have worked with world-class athletes, including members of the U.S. Ski Team. I’ve completed advanced studies with some of the most brilliant minds of my time in the field of NLP and am a perpetual student of sociology and human behavior.
I live with my photographer husband in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. I’m surrounded by trees. And I will always remain insanely curious.

The Forgotten Ones

Title: The Forgotten Ones
Author: Laura Howard
Genre: YA/NA, Fantasy, Paranormal, Mythology
Series: Book 1 in the Danaan trilogy
Received: From the author. This does not affect my review in any way shape or form.
Rating: Bison
How I'd blurb it: Laura Howard creates an action packed fantasy story intertwined in an artful way with the legends of Ireland leaving you in anticipation for the next book.

THE PREMISE
Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.

What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

(Summary via Goodreads)

THE PROS
1.) Okay, I think I say this way to much, but I loved this writing style and the characters voice. It felt real and made for a very easy read. I think that even if I had disliked the book, (Which I didn't) I would have continued reading works by this author, purely because I love her voice.
2.) The main character felt so relatable. Allison was not a big socializer and her cousin tried to encourage her to get out more, but Allison always preferred a book. She was sweet and kind and cared so much about her mother. Which just adds to why I like her.
3.) The love interest. Yep, I really liked him, which is always a good thing. I really hope that the author does not make this series have a love triangle. I don't think that's the way she'll go, but you never know.
4.) Is it just me or is that cover super pretty! The cover model reminded me a lot of Allison.
5.) It was short. Now normally I might not be so happy about this, but there was little that felt rushed. There was not too much information that the author tried to pack into my brain into such a short amount of time. Most importantly I didn't go brain dead from information overload from any of it.
6.) I loved learning about the Irish mythology. And I liked the villain. I read another book that incorporated some of this mythology so at first it was a bit hard to get used to the personality differences. (The book was the Alchemyst by Michael Scott) But over all the mythology was perfectly incorporated and did not feel like an info dump!
7.) I really liked the dream flashbacks. They gave a lot of insight into the Allison's mind and the state of her mother.
THE CONS
1.) I have to say, I was not a big fan of the ending. It felt a bit unfinished and I get that there will be another book, but I would have liked a bit more closure.
2.) I did get a bit confused with all the names. A couple times I thought  one character was another and I had to go back and reread.
OVERALL
I really enjoyed this book! Not only was it a super fun read but it was short quick and easy to read! The characters were great and overall I enjoyed the mythology!!! I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series and I can't wait to see how the author's writing style evolves and changes. I think that this is an indie author who's books many will pick up and be able to enjoy!

WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YES!!!
WILL I READ THE NEXT BOOK: YES
WILL I READ MORE BY THIS AUTHOR: YES!!! I love her writing style!

Title: Click to Subscribe
Author: L.M. Augustine
Genre: YA, Romance, Contemporary, Realistic Fiction, Humor
Rating: Bison

How I'd blurb it: A light fun read, with dorky characters and some serious LOL moments.

So there is one way to describe this book. Predictable. You know that West and Cat will get their happy ever after and finding what happens is not a good reason to read this book. But it was a fun read. It was cute sweet and had a nice build up in the romantic tension. So that was definitely a good thing.

THE PREMISE
135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I <3 br="" d="" green="" harper="" have="" on.="" promised="" sam="" she="" t-shirt="">
To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

(Summary via Goodreads)

THE PROS
1.) Cat was a great love interest. She was a total dork, but really sweet and funny!
2.) This book had so many funny moments. The book made me laugh, plain and simple!
3.) I really liked the little flashback moments/anecdotes. They fit so well into the story and helped you to understand the characters!!!
4.) Ummmm.....The epilogue!!! I have a weird obsession with epilogues.....I really really like them....
5.) West was a great main character. He was funny and smart and his narrative was great!
THE CONS
1.) While the suspense of when would they kiss was great....It got a little tiring. I started to get a little annoyed with them.
2.) There was a lot of swearing.....and that can be a bit distracting when the character is dropping and F-bomb every couple of sentences.
OVERALL
This was a super fun, light short read, which many will enjoy! I definitely can't wait to read more from this author! (I say that way to much!)
WOULD I READ THIS BOOK: YES
WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: MOST LIKELY
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: YES
WILL I READ MORE BY THIS AUTHOR: PROBABLY

                                                                             *******
Sounds great, right? And to make the book sound even more awesome, (how could it be possible??) it was blurbed by James Dashner!!! (the guy who wrote Mazerunner and who has an awesome taste in books!!!!)
He said:
“The perfect blend of everything I love in a story. I hope a sequel comes soon!”
Well, I could go on and on about my excitement for this book or I could cut to the chase and have you read the excerpt instead of my weird ramblings!

When Dr. Brown stepped back in the room, he handed me a pamphlet: Drugs and the Teenage Mind. I groaned and shook my head.
“I’m not accusing you of anything, but when you’ve been a doctor as long as I have, you learn to read the signs.” Dr. Brown had kind eyes. They were sympathetic, compassionate...but it didn’t change the fact that he was as wrong as everyone else. “You know that any drugs you put in your system can affect your sleep patterns as well.”
I looked him straight in the eye. “Just for the sake of argument, let’s say I am on drugs that are keeping me from sleeping.”
His bushy brown eyebrows shot up. Clearly not the response he’d been expecting. “What are you on?”
“I didn’t admit anything, and it doesn’t matter.” I shook my head and leaned forward, my elbows resting on my knees. “What I need to know is, what happens to a person’s brain when they don’t sleep?”
Dr. Brown shook his head. “Don’t sleep at all?”
“Yes.”
“Well, first they’d be tired, irritable, emotional, obviously.” Dr. Brown shrugged, but he was watching my reaction closely. “And then there’d be tremors as the brain experienced stutters in its control of the body. Eventually the body would collapse from exhaustion and the problem would be fixed for the time being.”
No matter how tired I became, I never collapsed and my brain never slept. I wasn’t normal. I shook my head. “Let’s say it didn’t collapse. For whatever reason, a body kept going. What would happen next?”
He frowned. “That’s not possible without external interference—and extreme stimulation.”
“Okay, then with those things.” I’m not sure when I stood up, but his eyes widened as he looked up at me. “What would happen next?”
“I don’t understand. What’s this about?” He rolled his stool back a bit.
I took a step closer but kept my voice low. I needed him to answer. “What would happen next, doctor?”
He frowned and stood up, but I still had a couple of inches on him. “The person would become psychotic, experiencing a variety of dangerous psychological symptoms, and then...well, then the person would die.”
It felt like he’d punched me in the gut. The room spun a little and I crumpled back into my seat. My eyes glued to the carpet in front of me. The research I’d done...I was right. I’d been right. I didn’t want to be right.
Dr. Brown sat back on his stool and scooted it closer to me. “Why these questions, Parker? You aren’t saying that you—”
“No,” I interrupted, looking up with a forced smile. “It’s about a science project I’m working on.”

                                                                                *****
Ummmmm......ISN'T IT AMAZING???? I'm pretty sure after reading that my mouth dropped open in admiration!!! The style, the words, the epic awesomeness, this book seems to have it all!
